Virtual Reality Quick Start Guide

This guidance pertains to those who utilize the Virtual Reality service.

Virtual Reality is quickly evolving as a key training component for many industries. With Training Management Center, virtual reality courses can be assigned to learners and their progress can be monitored. Learners will access the courses through a compatible virtual reality headset.

Virtual Reality Training Advantages

There are many advantages to virtual reality training!

  • Immersive experience engages employee learners, leading to better retention of information. Hands-on experiences can be crucial for learners to understand real-life scenarios.
  • Safe and risk-free environments offer a space for learners to experience high-risk simulations free from harm. This reduces the risk for accidents or injuries. Repeatable experiences allow learners to build upon their skills quickly to reinforce their topic knowledge.
  • VR training is time efficient; it can reduce the time required with more traditional methods. Remote accessibility can be established for continuous learning, getting rid of geographical constraints.

Virtual Reality Training from J. J. Keller: What to Know

A critical guidepost for J. J. Keller's virtual reality course development has been to create a product that will allow customers to experience VR training in a seamless, intuitive way. Virtual Reality may be a new technology for many, but setting up and managing VR training is fully-integrated with our learning management solutions:

  • Training Management Center (TMC) is fully integrated with the VR platform provider, Pixo. When you're logged into TMC, enrolling learners, monitoring progress, and tracking scores is quick and easy.
  • J. J. Keller's VR courses cost one (1) enrollment per learner.
  • J. J. Keller-created courses are compatible with the following VR headset:
    • Pico Neo 3: You can purchase this headset at market price from J. J. Keller directly; the Pixo HubApp will automatically be loaded onto the headset. If you already have your own Pico Neo 3 headset (considered "BYOD"/Bring Your Own Device), you will need to set up a Pico Business Account and ensure you install the Pixo HubApp onto the headset.
    • See Virtual Reality Headsets for more information.
  • Virtual Reality may be new to you and your employees. It also comes with terminology that is important to understand. See VR 101 and Practicing Safety During VR Training for more information and tips.

Enrolling Learners in VR Courses & Monitoring Progress

Begin Training

Now that a Learner has been enrolled in a VR course, they are ready to begin VR training. Here are a few housekeeping items to consider before beginning training:

  • Ensure the headset and controllers are adequately charged.
  • Clear an area of the room. (See Practicing Safety During VR Training for more information.)
  • Turn on and place the headset on your head and over the eyes.
  • Ensure the headset is connected to Wi-Fi.

When they are officially ready to begin training, open the J. J. Keller-branded Pixo Hub application. They will need to log in with the passcode sent to the learner's email.

The learner can turn the toggle on next to Passcode Only and enter their provided passcode.

If they are in a J. J. Keller VR course, they will be entered into a J. J. Keller lobby where they will learn more about using the controllers, how to move throughout the course, etc. They are presented with the following video:

J. J. Keller VR courses have three modes of training: Control Test Mode, Practice Mode, and Evaluation Mode. These different modes are accessible via three doors in the lobby. (Evaluation Mode will be the only score that is saved and sent to the TMC back office when the course is finished.)

  • Control Test Mode: It is recommended that learners complete this mode before entering the Practice or Evaluation modes
    • This mode aims to acclimate the learner to the most complex VR maneuvers in this training module. This includes a short sequence of interactions in which the learner is fully guided through the completion of each task. The learner must know how to complete these interactions to successfully complete the Evaluation mode.
    • This mode is not scored.
  • Practice Mode: It is recommended that learners should have the option to complete this mode as many times as they would like before entering Evaluation mode.
    • The purpose of this mode is to allow learners to apply their knowledge through exploration and improve through positive and remedial feedback. It allows them to practice the entire training scenario until they feel confident about moving on to Evaluation mode.
    • This mode provides a score, but it is NOT recorded.
  • Evaluation Mode: Learners are required to complete this mode. This mode is scored and sent back to TMC for recordkeeping.
    • This mode assesses the learner's proficiency and retention without any guidance or feedback. The learner must know how to complete the tasks on their own.

The learner will locate their desired testing mode by transporting to one of the three doors in the lobby and virtually opening the handle with their controller.
