What Happens Inside the Headset

This guidance pertains to those who utilize the Virtual Reality service.

When a learner is enrolled in a course and is ready to begin the training, they can put on the headset and open the Pixo HubApp.

The learner can switch the toggle to just display the "Passcode" entry field. They will then need to enter their temporary passcode (received in their welcome email for the assigned course) into the J. J. Keller-branded Pixo Hub application.

Important! These are one-time passcodes that will change every time a learner exits a session. Learners or administrators can also update their passcodes; see Reset a VR Passcode for more information.

The learner will then be sent to a virtual waiting room where they will see the course they have been in enrolled in. The learner will point the controller to select the Open button.

For all J. J. Keller VR courses, the learner will be placed in the J. J. Keller lobby upon entry into the course. This lobby will help the learner become used to the 3D experience. They will receive guidance on using the hand controllers such as: pointing and clicking, grasping objects, and "teleporting" from one part of a room to another. This experience allows the learner to take however much time is needed to prepare to enter the course.

They can watch the video inside the lobby to learn more. Here is the video they will see:

There are three learning modes for J. J. Keller VR courses: Control Test Mode, Practice Mode, and Evaluation Mode.  These different modes are accessible via three doors in the lobby. Evaluation Mode will be the only score that is saved and sent to the TMC back office when the course is finished.

  • Control Test Mode: It is recommended that learners complete this mode before entering the Practice or Evaluation modes
    • This mode aims to acclimate the learner to the most complex VR maneuvers in this training module. This includes a short sequence of interactions in which the learner is fully guided through the completion of each task. The learner must know how to complete these interactions to successfully complete the Evaluation mode.
    • This mode is not scored.
  • Practice Mode: It is recommended that learners should have the option to complete this mode as many times as they would like before entering Evaluation mode.
    • The purpose of this mode is to allow learners to apply their knowledge through exploration and improve through positive and remedial feedback. It allows them to practice the entire training scenario until they feel confident about moving on to Evaluation mode.
    • This mode provides a score, but it is NOT recorded.
  • Evaluation Mode: Learners are required to complete this mode. This mode is scored and sent back to TMC for recordkeeping.
    • This mode assesses the learner's proficiency and retention without any guidance or feedback. The learner must know how to complete the tasks on their own.

The learner will locate their desired testing mode by transporting to one of the three doors in the lobby and virtually opening the handle with their controller.
