TRI Toolbox
The TRI Toolbox is a feature designed to guide EHS Professionals to determine if they are required to file Form R for the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI). If you are required to file, this feature provides guidance and instruction on TRI and Form R.
To determine if your operations are subject to Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reporting, click Is TRI Reporting Required.

The requirement for TRI Reporting is determined by whether you are:
- In a covered industry AND
- You employ the equivalent of 10 full-time employees AND
- You manufacture or process TRI-listed chemicals above specified thresholds.
*Note: All 3 must be true for you to be required to file TRI Form R.
A modal appears and you start by selecting your Location.
-
Covered Industry? Indicate whether this Location is a federal facility. If not, the wizard will require you to select your NAICS code to determine if your industry is subject to TRI Reporting.

*Note: If you use the Incidents feature in SMS, we will pull in your NAICS code for the selected Location.
-
Hours Worked? Indicate whether or not you expect to exceed 20,000 employee work hours in the year.

*Note: If you use the Incidents feature in SMS, we will pull in your previous years “hours worked” to help you make this determination.
-
TRI Listed Chemicals? If you currently use the Chemical feature in SMS, we will pull any ingredient(s) that appears in your list and appears on the TRI list of chemicals. We will use CAS No. to make this determination.

Not all chemicals on the list are identified by CAS No. To ensure you identify all your chemicals, we ask that you check the list and select any chemicals used in your facility. Upon clicking Save, the chemicals and their thresholds will be saved.

The final step is for you to indicate if this facility’s manufacturing processing/or otherwise using any of these chemicals exceeds the listed thresholds. Depending on your response, the wizard will determine your TRI Reporting applicability.
